JCI Sheffield 2008 Officers

LUCINDA WHITE - PRESIDENT 2008
I joined JCI Sheffield as Business Director in 2006 as I had recently set up my own business and wanted to make contacts with people my own age in the City. Since I joined, I have met many business contacts and friends and attended lots of fun and interesting training and networking events. I am enjoying being President this year - it is certainly a new challenge juggling JCI, being a mum and running my own businesss, but one which is very rewarding!

LISA PRICE - DEPUTY PRESIDENT
Lisa is the Marketing and Events Manager for one of Sheffield’s largest non-national law firms, Ashton Morton Slack. Lisa came to Sheffield in 2000 to attend Sheffield Hallam University, like so many Sheffield graduates she found herself asking “How can a place so easy to get to be so difficult to leave!” and has lived here ever since. She joined JCI in March 2006 and was thrilled to take on the role of Community Director for 2007, during which she coordinated “Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” a water carrying challenge in support of WaterAid. PETER WRIGHT - BUSINESS DIRECTOR
I joined JCI after relocating to Sheffield from the South East as a way of getting to know the City and making new friends. I enjoy the opportunity offered by JCI to meet people from other professions and industries.
In addition to my JCI Directorship I am a Director of the Law Society’s Junior Lawyer Division and represent Newly Qualified Solicitors on the Law Society Council. I contribute to the legal press regularly with articles on legal career development and regularly speak at training events and conferences.

I enjoy travelling and have recently travelled to Washington, Hawaii and Miami with the American Bar, while I have also travelled to Paris, Brussels and Berlin in the past 18 months. I enjoy training regularly and completed the Sheffield Half Marathon and the GB Three Peaks Challenge in 2007, helping to raise 7,000 pounds for charity in the process.

LOUISA HARRISON-WALKER - PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Louisa is co-director of Benchmark Recruit and became involved with JCI three years ago; she is in her second season as a Personal Development Director and arranges seminars and workshops relating to topics such as mind mapping, speed reading, goal setting and networking lunches. Her favourite thing about being a member of JCI is being able to involve herself with a group of like minded professionals and get involved with community related activities such as gardening at Whirlow farm, raising funds for WaterAid by completing a sponsored walk, charity raffles and the easter egg hunt due to take place for Bluebell wood children’s hospice this year.

PHIL TURNER - SOCIAL DIRECTOR
Phil Turner is editor and co-owner of Exposed Magazine, Sheffield and South Yorkshire’s monthly entertainment and listings magazine. He is also director of a new PR and marketing firm, Big Fish PR, which specialises in marketing in the Sheffield area.

VANESSA MITCHINSON - FINANCE DIRECTOR
I am the Finance Director for 2008. I joined JCI Sheffield after relocating from London to Sheffield in 2004 so as to get involved locally, meet like-minded people, to develop myself and to make connections through networking. These are useful in my normal work role as an accountant in the NHS. There’s a good mix of raising money for charity, personal development and socialising whilst having fun attending the events!

RICHARD JEWITT - MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR
Richard Jewitt is co-Membership Director for 2008. An active member of JCI Sheffield for over two years Richard works for his Family Business Footprint Tools manufacturing a traditional range of hand tools. He views JCI as not only the perfect setting to meet fellow professionals in the Sheffield/Yorkshire area but as an opportunity to develop his personal skills in a relaxed, friendly and fun environment.

EMMA DAMIAN-GRINT - COMMUNITY DIRECTOR
Currently I work for Sheffield Students Union organising all of their fundraising activity. Because of this experience I thought that I could help with the Community aspect of the JCI - turns out I am now the Director for Community! I think local charities are truly grateful for the support that the JCI has historically given them and I love the fact that being in the JCI means that I have a personal relationship with these fellow members of our community.

JIM LAFFERTY - MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR
I’m a dentist at Orgreave Dental Surgery, in Handsworth, Sheffield, with my wife Nichoela. In my spare time I play water polo, and try to improve my windsurfing, though our little-un seems to be restricting this now!
Richard Jewitt and I look after membership matters for JCI Sheffield for 2008, we liaise with JCI Head Office, respond to queries from potential members, and organise paperwork for some of the awards. We sit on the JCI Sheffield Council, and throw in our two-penn’orth at meetings, and get involved with organising other events when required
